This original Verkade picture album Langs de Zuiderzee from 1914 is a beautifully illustrated collector's album, written by Jac. P. Thijsse and published by biscuit and chocolate manufacturer Verkade. This album belongs to the beloved series of Verkade albums, with which customers could save for pictures to paste into the book.

In Langs de Zuiderzee Thijsse takes the reader on a fascinating journey of discovery around the former Zuiderzee, from Enkhuizen in North Holland to the Frisian and Overijssel coasts and islands. He vividly describes the landscape, the flora and fauna, and life in the characteristic fishing villages such as Volendam, Marken and Urk. The text is supported by beautiful illustrations and picturesque watercolours by artists such as Jan Voerman Sr., who masterfully capture the atmosphere and natural beauty of the region.

This album not only offers a nostalgic insight into the Netherlands at the beginning of the 20th century, but is also a valuable historical document about an era before the construction of the Afsluitdijk, when the Zuiderzee still had an open connection with the North Sea.

For collectors of Verkade albums and lovers of Dutch natural and cultural history, Langs de Zuiderzee is a particularly sought-after and valuable collector's item.

All the pictures are glued into the album. The book is intact without major tears or damage.

Due to the age of the albums there will be some signs of ageing such as discolouration in the pages, age spots and small tears in the cover and pages. But nothing major that will take away the pleasure of reading and looking at the book.

The album measures 24x30 cm.
