The album contains extensive texts by Frans Naerebout and is richly illustrated with 96 color plates, individually collected and then pasted in their designated places within the sturdy, beautifully designed album. Using clear and accessible language, the reader is transported into the world of ships, ports, shipowners, sailors, and maritime technology. The album covers, among other things, the history of Dutch maritime navigation, the development of ship types, the role of major shipping lines, the function of ports, pilots, buoys, and buoyage, and also highlights fishing vessels, tugboats, dredgers, and ferries. The illustrations, printed on thin, smooth art paper and numbered from 1 to 96, give the album a lively and educational feel.
A special feature is the double centerfold, which depicts a detailed cross-section of a passenger ship for the Americas, complete with an explanatory list of parts, adding value and depth to the album. The album is complete and in exceptionally good condition.
