This original Verkade picture album De Vecht from 1915 is a beautifully illustrated collector's album, written by the well-known conservationist and author Jac. P. Thijsse. Published by the Dutch biscuit and chocolate manufacturer Verkade, this album is part of the beloved series of Verkade albums, with which customers could collect and paste pictures.
In this album, Thijsse takes the reader along the picturesque river Vecht, which flows from Utrecht to the IJsselmeer. He describes not only the nature and landscape, but also the rich history and culture of the region, with its stately country estates, historic towns such as Weesp and Loenen, and the influence of the river on the lives of the people.
The text is enlivened by dozens of beautiful illustrations and watercolors, including those by the renowned artist Jan Voerman Sr., who makes a unique contribution to the album with his atmospheric depictions of the Dutch landscape.
The Vecht offers a picture of the Netherlands at the beginning of the 20th century and is a valuable document for lovers of nature, culture and history. Nowadays the album is a sought-after collector's item, especially in complete condition with all the pictures pasted in.
All the pictures are glued into the album. The book is intact without major tears or damage.
Due to the age of the albums there will be some signs of ageing such as discolouration in the pages, age spots and small tears in the cover and pages. But nothing major that will take away the pleasure of reading and looking at the book.
The album measures 24x30 cm.
