This original Verkade picture album, "De IJssel" from 1916, is a beautifully illustrated collector's album, published by the renowned Dutch biscuit and chocolate manufacturer Verkade. This album is part of the renowned Verkade album series, which the company used in the early 20th century to encourage customers to collect and paste in savings cards.

Written by Jac. P. Thijsse, "De IJssel" takes the reader along the course of the IJssel River, from its source near Westervoort to its mouth in Lake IJsselmeer. The album contains dozens of beautiful, detailed illustrations and watercolors by artists such as Jan Voerman Sr., who was known for his atmospheric depictions of the Dutch landscape.

Besides its rich visuals, the album offers an in-depth description of the flora, fauna, villages, and towns along the IJssel River, clearly showcasing Thijsse's love of Dutch nature. This makes it not only a nostalgic collector's item but also a valuable source of historical and natural history information.

Today, De IJssel is considered a special collector's item for enthusiasts of Verkade albums, Dutch history, and nature illustrations.

All the pictures are glued into the album. The book is intact with no major tears or damage.

Due to the age of the albums, there will be some signs of wear, such as discoloration on the pages and age spots on the cover and pages. But nothing major that will detract from the enjoyment of reading and viewing the book.

The album measures 24x30 cm.
