This picture album from 1938 was written by G. de Josselin de Jong and was published by the NV Koek- en Beschuitfabriek v/h G. Hille & Zoon on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Artis Zoo in Amsterdam.
This hardcover book contains 112 pages and measures 23.3 x 29.6 cm. The album contains 104 pasted-in pictures, 96 small and 8 large. The illustrations are made by artists such as Sam van Beek, Kessler Marburger, Herbert van de Poll and others.
The album offers an extensive description of the zoo and its inhabitants, supported by colorful watercolors and illustrations. It served both as educational material and as a collector's item for nature and animal lovers. The album was published without a print run, indicating that it is the first print run.
Today the album is considered a collector's item. This edition is in perfect condition without any notable damage. Of course the pages show some discolouration due to age.
