Collection: Friesland 1918

Between 1903 and 1940, you could collect pictures by purchasing Verkade products and paste them into special albums. These Verkade albums came to an end during World War II.

Verkade began publishing three picture albums in 1903, numbers 1, 2, and 3. These albums contained advertising pictures for Verkade products. The picture albums were such a success that Verkade later launched more robust albums, which became a phenomenon. The Friesland album, released in 1918, is one of the rarest. This is because, due to paper shortages caused by the First World War, far fewer albums were produced. Consequently, the album was only released in 1919 in a smaller edition. It is also rumored that many Friesland pictures and albums were lost in a fire.

In this collection you will find individual pictures and complete albums when I have them in stock.
